How Long Does Invisalign Really Take?

It’s one of the first questions almost every patient asks at their consultation: how long is this actually going to take? The honest answer is, it depends — but here’s what really drives the timeline.

Mild Cases: 6 to 12 Months

If you’re mostly dealing with minor crowding or small gaps, you may be in and out of aligners in under a year. These cases usually require fewer aligner sets and simpler tooth movements.

Moderate Cases: 12 to 18 Months

Most of our patients fall into this range. Moderate crowding, spacing, or bite correction typically takes a full aligner series with regular check-ins every 6 to 8 weeks to track progress.

Complex Cases: 18 to 24+ Months

Significant bite issues, severe crowding, or cases that started later in life may need a longer series of aligners — sometimes with refinement trays near the end to fine-tune the final result.

The Biggest Factor: You

Invisalign only works if you wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. Patients who are consistent almost always finish on schedule — or ahead of it. Patients who skip days or lose aligners often see their treatment stretch longer than originally planned.
